“I am a lifetime member of Hospitality Minnesota because they look out for the interests of our industry. They go to bat for my restaurants in St. Paul and in my local community. Hospitality Minnesota is also a resource for us. I have always said; “It’s not always what you know, but who you know.”

We are busy running our restaurants! It’s not easy looking out for ourselves on our own. Hospitality Minnesota does this. And, it’s a great way to get know other operators in the your business.”

Saint Paul RiverCentre
175 Kellogg Blvd West, St Paul, MN 55102

The HMEF MN State ProStart Invitational showcases the culinary and academic talents of Minnesota high school students enrolled in ProStart programs. Each school is permitted to bring up to two teams.

The 2022 Invitational will include teams from the following schools:
  • Brooklyn Center High School
  • Elk River High School
  • Integrated Arts Academy
  • Park Center IB World School
  • Pillager High School
  • Proctor High School
  • Rogers High School
  • Sauk Rapids-Rice High School
  • Zimmerman High School

A team consists of two to four students plus an alternate and can be a mix of sophomores, juniors and seniors. Each team may compete in either the culinary and management team competitions or both. The competition follows the rules of the National ProStart Invitational, and includes two areas of competition:
  • A culinary competition where teams have one hour to prepare a three-course meal while being judged on knife skills, sanitation, menu presentation, taste and teamwork.
  • A management competition where teams present a business proposal for a new restaurant concept, including menu, price structure, marketing plan and other considerations.

When we bought our resort, we knew we would need to build a network of people knowledgeable about the industry that we could pick up the phone and ask questions. Both Hospitality Minnesota members and staff have always been more than generous with their time and expertise.  The colleagues and relationships you will form with others in our diverse hospitality interest across the state are priceless, as is the knowledge-base of the staff. But just as important is the strength of our voice as a united industry in the media, public eye, and legislature as we work together to promote our industry statewide.
