Yesterday, the House Labor and Industry Finance and Policy Committee heard the adult size changing tables bill, HF981, for the second time. The author, Representative Hicks, offered the A1 Amendment to HF981, which was adopted and will move the process to rulemaking. The bill has been sent to the general register for a House floor vote.
As amended, the bill now requires the Commissioner of Labor and Industry to adopt rules requiring adult-size changing facilities as part of the State Building Code, and give authority to adopt the rules under an expedited process. Testimony from the Department of Labor and Industry indicated that the model code they plan to adopt will not apply to all construction, and the types of building it applies to are buildings 150,000 square feet and larger with 6 or more bathrooms.
