On Wednesday, the Senate Jobs and Economic Development Committee heard SF1578, which establishes a $250,000 appropriation to DEED for a grant to Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation (HMEF) for the ProStart and Hospitality Tourism Management Training Programs. In 2021, HMEF received its first $250,000 grant, which will be expended by June (2023). This appropriation request is for FY2024 – 2025 funding. During the hearing, Hospitality Minnesota had 5 testifiers, including Liz Rammer, Natalie Thompson (Elk River ProStart Student), Jordan Scheurer (Roosevelt ProStart Student), Ben Rengstorf (Culinary Arts Teacher, Roosevelt), and Noah Rosenberger (ProStart Alumnus). Their testimony was well received and the program received praise from Senators. The appropriation request was “laid over” for potential inclusion in the omnibus bill – meaning, it will be considered in the final budget package for Senate Jobs and Economic Development Committee. The bill is still awaiting a House hearing. Comments are closed.
